A slackline between two museums: energizing cultural spaces

On September 21, 2024, during the Nuit des Musées, a line was stretched in the center of Lausanne, between two buildings on the Plateforme 10 esplanade. Passers-by and visitors alike stopped in fascination to observe the aerial spectacle.

Enliven cultural spaces with a Slackline show

A slackline at the heart of Museum Night

A line among lines. The slackline stretched between the Museum of Photography and the Museum of Fine Art, highlighted the modern, design-oriented architecture of the buildings. The moving line of the slackline contrasted with the motionless lines of Plateforme 10's imposing buildings. This show is not only a physical performance but also an art form, helping to energize cultural events and attract new audiences.

The aim of the Nuit des Musées was to open up museums to a varied public and present them in a new light. The organizers sought to break down barriers around museums and rekindle their appeal. This 23rd edition was a real success, with a record attendance of almost 16,000 visitors in Lausanne. Under the theme "Stars in the eyes", the museums offered a wide range of activities for all ages. The slackline crossing between the Museum of Photography and the Museum of Fine Arts was a perfect example of this, delighting young and old alike.

Children and their parents could follow the slackliner's progress from below, walking along the esplanade.
Slackline Event performer Samuel Vollery made 4 crossings on this 23rd Museum Night. Including one in the middle of the night, under the light of a spotlight. It took all his concentration to complete almost a kilometer on the wire, without a single misstep.
